Acura Starts the New Millennium With a Bang; Best-Ever
January Breaks Ten-Year Record
TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1 Acura posted its best ever
January with sales of 12,391, a 38.4% jump from January of last year. The
previous January record of 10,087, set in 1990, was bettered by more than
22% this month as Acura continued to gain momentum on the strength of core new
models including the 3.2 TL sedan, 3.2 CL coupe and the highly popular MDX
luxury sport-utility vehicle.
"Acura is off to a great start in the new millennium with a terrific
lineup of new models that speak to our focus on world-class performance,
quality and value," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president for Acura.
"Acura's performance image will be further solidified by the introduction of
new, more powerful and sporty versions of the RL and TL in the coming months.
There's no question we're on the right track."
Sales of the 3.2 TL, America's best-selling luxury sedan, posted a new
January record of 5,056 units, up 3.8 from last year, while sales of the high
performance 3.2 CL and 3.2 CL Types-S coupes surged 40.4% to 1,562 units for
the month. Demand for Acura's hot-selling MDX, recently chosen as North
American Truck of the Year and Motor Trend's Sport Utility of the Year,
continues to build with sales of 3,414 units in January.
