Delphi is the first recipient of this award, which was presented on
Wednesday, Jan. 31, during the Michigan Minority Business Development
Council's Second Annual Mid-Michigan Buyer/Supplier Luncheon in Flint, Mich.
George Mansfield, global purchasing director for Delphi Energy & Chassis
Systems, accepted the award on behalf of Delphi.
"Delphi is actively involved in minority supplier initiatives," said
Mansfield. "Delphi's many minority supplier development initiatives have led
to an average growth rate of 13 percent annually for minority expenditures
over the last three years."
"Delphi's initiatives in minority supplier development are instrumental in
ensuring high-quality, competitive sources of supply," said Deborah Pickens,
Delphi's manager of Minority Supplier Development. "We are grateful for our
successful relationship with the Mid-Michigan Minority Supplier Council, which
has furthered our minority development efforts in the mid-Michigan
communities."
Key to Delphi's program are minority coordinators throughout Delphi who
serve in various capacities on the regional councils in their respective
communities. Another successful program is the Automotive Matchmaker
conference that is sponsored by Delphi. The conference, which has been in
existence for five years, brings together purchasing agents from major
automotive suppliers and manufacturers, with minority business entrepreneurs
specializing in the automotive industry. The conference is held annually in
Ohio and continues to be one of the largest minority supplier conferences in
the United States.
Delphi has received numerous minority development awards over the past
several years including:
* the Corporation of the Year award from the Dayton Minority Supplier
Development Council (four-time winner)
* Ohio Governor Bob Taft's 2000 Minority Business Development Recognition
Award;
* a nomination for the 1999 Corporation of the Year Award through the
Michigan Minority Business Development Council; and
* the Corporation of the Year award from the Upstate Minority Purchasing
Council in 1997.
