TRW Awarded Tactical Operations Centers Contract
Business Editors & Aerospace/Defense WritersRESTON, Va.--Jan. 31, 2001--TRW Inc. has begun work on a four-year contract valued up to $14 million to produce a total of 14 tactical operations centers (TOCs) for the First and Second Brigade Combat Teams at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Work on the cost-plus-incentive-fee contract, awarded Dec. 18 by the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., will be performed in Huntsville, Ala., and at teammate Logicon's facility near Fort Lewis.
"TRW's ability to deliver TOCs on schedule and within cost was demonstrated during the Joint Contingency Force exercise last year," said Terry Machleit, director of battlefield command and control for TRW Tactical Systems. At that time, TRW provided C4I TOC systems comprising 28 vehicles/shelters connected with voice communications and situational awareness that helped establish the tactics, techniques, and procedures for a more mobile, agile, lethal Army, added Machleit.
TRW will be responsible for the overall system engineering, system design, training and field support; teammate Logicon will perform equipment installation.
"We are committed to excellent performance on this TOC program, along with our digitization and Hunter UAV efforts, which also support the Army's Initial Brigade Combat Teams," said George Petteys, acting general manager, TRW Tactical Systems.
