Progressive Announces Organization Change

    MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio, Jan. 31 The Progressive
Corporation announced that, effective today, Charles B. Chokel,
Executive Vice-President and Chief Investments and Capital Officer, separated
from the Company.  Peter B. Lewis, Chairman, said, "We thank Chuck for all he
has contributed over a brilliant 23 year career with Progressive and wish him
continued success.  Chuck departs after a year of superb investment results
and leaves behind a proven team of experienced investors who contributed
