Johnson Controls Renews Sponsorship With Rocketsports Racing for 2001 Trans-Am Season

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Jan. 31 Johnson Controls --
under its HomeLink(R) brand -- has renewed its primary sponsorship with
Lansing, Michigan-based Rocketsports Racing for the 2001 Trans-Am Series
season. The announcement was made today by team owner/driver Paul Gentilozzi
and Bob Ellis, vice president of product marketing and brand development for
Johnson Controls.
Gentilozzi, who won back-to-back Trans-Am Drivers' Championships in 1998
and 1999, will again handle the driving responsibilities. The 2001 racing
season marks Johnson Controls' fourth season with Rocketsports Racing in
Trans-Am competition.
HomeLink, Johnson Controls' electronic communications system that
activates garage doors as well as home lighting, security, gate, and
door-locking systems, will enter its third season as the primary sponsor with
the team.
"Johnson Controls has played such an important role in Rocketsports
Racing's success," said Gentilozzi. "Achievements of that caliber can only
come with support from a partner that shares our dedication and commitment to
excellence. We're pleased to welcome Johnson Controls back to the Rocketsports
family and we look forward to contributing to their marketing efforts."
During the 2000 race season, Gentilozzi scored three consecutive wins,
four poles and finished second in the points standings. Gentilozzi ranks first
in all-time Trans-Am top-five finishes, "Fast Five" qualifying efforts and in
race starts, and second in all-time top-three and lead lap finishes.
"Johnson Controls is proud to once again align itself and the HomeLink
brand name with the Rocketsports team," said Ellis. "Paul Gentilozzi is a
world-class driver, and the Rocketsports team builds Paul's car with the same
ideals of quality and pride that our employees use when manufacturing
automotive interior products."
Ellis added that HomeLink is one of the most successful brand-name
products for Johnson Controls and the industry overall, available on more than
130 different 2001 model-year vehicles.
"Our innovative HomeLink Universal Transceiver is found on more than
13.5 million vehicles on the road today," said Ellis. "Johnson Controls'
sponsorship of the Rocketsports team provides great visibility for our product
and helps raise consumer awareness of our strongest brand."
The HomeLink Universal Transceiver from Johnson Controls can be integrated
into a vehicle's overhead console, visor, or rear-view mirror. Future versions
of HomeLink will enable drivers to remotely check tire pressure and will
integrate remote keyless entry devices.
The Plymouth, Michigan (U.S.A.)-based automotive business of Johnson
Controls -- which employs more than 77,000 people at 285 facilities worldwide
-- achieved US$12.7 billion in sales for the 2000 fiscal year. In model-year
2001, it will supply interior products for more than 23 million vehicles.
