Rear Seat Entertainment Market Worth $500 Million By 2003 Reports just-auto.com

    LONDON, Jan. 29 http://www.just-auto.com -- Mobile video
equipment has done much more than create a stir -- the growth of the market
has been staggering with manufacturing-level revenues reaching nearly
$208 million in 2000.
The Frost & Sullivan report at
http://just-auto.com/features_detail.asp?art=429 says that not only have
smaller companies such as Texas Saddlebags Inc (TSI) entered the market, but
also mobile electronics manufacturers have embraced the new media in a drive
to increase profit margins. In 2000, the market was dominated by Audiovox
Corporation, Clarion Corporation of America, Alpine Electronics of America and
Rosen Products. However, the market is still in an early stage of development
and competitors are scrambling for share.
This is mainly due to prospects for realising massive market potential.
The introduction of video entertainment in cars has broadened the customer
base for in-car entertainment from males aged 16-25 to 16-50 year olds. Males
are not the only growing audience though. The report says that, "women and
older customers are increasingly seeking rear-seat entertainment for their
kids and 'home office' features in the car."
Decreasing prices are another factor ensuring that the market is on the
increase. It was predicted that the in-car entertainment system would make a
stir in the industry but it has gone much further, taking the mass market by
storm. By 2003 it is estimated that the North American automotive rear-seat
entertainment aftermarket will be worth $500 million.
