LONDON, Jan. 25 http://www.just-auto.com --
Nissan president, Carlos Ghosn said today that the 40 million pounds sterling
grant swayed him to building the next Micra in the UK.
The report at http://just-auto.com/news_detail.asp?art=22894 says that
Ghosn announced the decision only after "extensive profitability analysis."
Ghosn said that the final decision was based on three elements:
1. "Our belief that the UK will again provide a place where we can build
cars competitively. We believe it can offer us a favourable business
environment with a competitive and stable exchange rate."
2. "The 40 million pounds regional selective assistance, which swayed the
balance, particularly in the short term, towards Sunderland."
3. "The convincing record of our Sunderland plant where we have already
invested 1.5 billion pounds in delivering on superior quality and
productivity and committing to a 30 per cent cost reduction through
2003."
