ColorGuard Fabric Deal Sewn-Up
EDGEFIELD, S.C.--Martin Color-Fi Inc. has sewn-up exclusive North American rights from Clariant Corp. for the Nylostab S-EED polyester fiber additive for automotive applications.
The new MCF fiber is called ColorGuard--designed to be stabilized against the long-term effects of ultraviolet light and heat while providing an improved color appearance.
“We are excited about the impact our product will have in the automotive segment and are pleased to have the opportunity to partner with a significant player in Martin Color-Fi,” said Robert A. Post, a Clariant vice president.
“We view this new additive as enabling MCF to provide the next generation of solution dyed polyester fiber,” said Stephen A. Zagorski, MCF’s president and chief executive officer.
Following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, MCF’s basic business now involves manufacturing colored synthetic fibers from recycled plastics such as soft-drink bottles, off-class packaging resins and film waste. Its primary customers are in the automotive industry, and its products typically are used in headliners, door panels and trunks. MCF makes specialty staple fiber--both solution dyed and natural--for a wide range of markets, including industrial, home furnishings, floor coverings, apparel and construction. The company also produces polypropylene and nylon staple fiber, in addition to yarn, pigments and additives.
