Delco Remy Teams Up With Ecoair to Develop Advanced Technology Alternators

ANDERSON, Ind., Jan. 24 Delco Remy International, Inc.,
announced an agreement with privately held Ecoair Corporation of
Hamden, Connecticut, to design and develop advanced technology alternators.
The new initiative will combine Delco Remy's design, manufacturing, and
distribution experience with Ecoair's patented product features to bring this
new technology to market. This agreement will focus on the creation of
alternators that are capable of significantly higher outputs at much greater
efficiencies than traditional claw-pole designs, resulting in more electrical
power for vehicles while using reduced amounts of fuel.
Advancements in electrical generating technology for vehicle alternators
are becoming increasingly important with continuing demands of higher
electrical energy requirements at higher efficiencies. The increased
introductions of new electrical components and conveniences include
telecommunications, video and navigation screens, appliances, and always-on
lighting, in addition to electrically powered devices such as valves and
pumps. These demands require charging systems that minimize vehicle weight,
reduce fuel consumption, improve emissions, and increase durability.
Ecoair has developed a series of enhanced alternator systems that step up
the output of a traditionally sized unit using a new brushless permanent
magnet design. Co-Founder and CEO of Ecoair, Peter Knudsen, Jr., welcomed the
opportunity offered by joining with Delco Remy in bringing the new alternators
to market. "We have patented significant enhancements for vehicle charging
systems that we can jointly produce and offer to the entire world as the
result of our alliance with Delco Remy."
President of Delco Remy America, a subsidiary of Delco Remy International,
Inc., Richard L. Stanley noted, "Ecoair has developed technology advancements
that will help keep our products on stage with engine designers and vehicle
requirements for added power and convenience while using less fuel."
Ecoair Corp., founded in 1991, is a high-technology company that invents,
develops and licenses energy-efficient, environmentally friendly electrical
products related to the electrical power needs of vehicles. Ecoair inventions
include: Hybrid Alternator, low-pressure, high-efficiency air conditioner,
integrated starter/alternator and a device that enables a vehicle to act as an
AC electric power generator.
Delco Remy designs, manufactures, remanufactures and distributes
electrical, powertrain/drivetrain and related components and provides core
exchange service for automobiles and light trucks, medium- and heavy-duty
trucks and other heavy-duty off-road and industrial applications.
Products include starter motors, alternators, engines, transmissions,
torque converters, fuel systems and traction control systems. The company
serves the aftermarket and original equipment manufacturer markets,
principally in North America as well as Europe, Latin America and Asia
Pacific.
