ADVISORY/Spokespeople From Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers Available to Comment at California Air Resources Board Meeting on Zero Emmision Vehicle Mandate

    --

WHO: Josephine Cooper, President and CEO
            Gloria Bergquist, Director of Communications
Greg Dana, Vice President of Environmental Affairs

WHAT: On Jan. 25, 2001, the California Air Resources Board
(CARB) is expected to take action on the California Zero
Emmision Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. Last month, two
alternative proposals were brought forth for
consideration. The first alternative, offered by the
Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, proposes the
implementation of a market test of electric vehicles in a
single California city with the goal of measuring how much
demand for ZEVs actually exist. The second alternative,
offered by CARB, would reduce the annual ZEV requirement
from 22,000 to 4,650 and would allow automakers to include
hybrid vehicles in meeting the annual 4% goal.
