Traffic.com Launches Service in Baltimore; Traffic Information Provider Further Expands Its National Presence

WAYNE, Pa.--Jan. 23, 2001--Traffic.com, the premier provider of traffic and logistics information, announced today that it has begun traffic information service on its website for Baltimore, so that motorists in the nation's 15th largest city and surrounding region can better plan their routes and avoid congestion. The service allows drivers with hectic schedules to access continually updated traffic information on demand, exactly when they need it, in order to make improved use of their time on the road.
Visitors who log onto Traffic.com (www.traffic.com) can select Baltimore from ten cities currently available and check accidents, events, alerts and advisories on major roads throughout the region, and obtain high-quality traffic information in simple, highly relevant key route segments. Drivers will also be able to hear traffic reports on "WBAL Radio 11" that feature information provided by Traffic.com.
"We are excited to bring traffic information to Baltimore," said Richard P. Ramirez, President and CEO of Traffic.com. "According to the 1999 Annual Mobility Study, travelers in 68 urban areas - including Baltimore - lost over $72 billion in wasted time and fuel in 1997, due to congestion alone. Constantly updated traffic information is important to drivers here and that is exactly what we provide - accurate, timely traffic information on demand."
Traffic.com recently launched its TrafficPulse(SM) digital sensor network, an Intelligent Transportation System developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Transportation, in Pittsburgh, PA, with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater presiding over the ceremony. Motorists who log on to the Pittsburgh portion of the Traffic.com website can view first-hand the benefits of the digital sensor deployment, such as "Digital Travel Times" and "Average Speeds" on key routes throughout the region. The Pittsburgh site utilizes this proprietary digital technology for its reports, which are supplemented by traditional event and incident data (accidents, disabled vehicles, police activity, construction, etc.) to provide the most comprehensive information currently available to motorists.
The expansion into Baltimore is part of a planned national rollout that will ultimately position Traffic.com in virtually every major U.S. market. In addition to Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the company also provides service on its website for Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, Detroit and Chicago. For now, Baltimore will benefit from the best available traditional event and incident data for its reports. Eventually, Traffic.com plans to deploy its TrafficPulse(SM) digital sensor network in all of its markets, identical to the system already in place in Pittsburgh.

    About Traffic.com:

Traffic.com is revolutionizing traffic information with its exclusive TrafficPulse(SM) digital sensor network, built in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation. The network, now operational in Pittsburgh and under deployment in Philadelphia, gathers real-time data to provide actual speeds and travel times to motorists. The digital data is supplemented with event and incident data to provide a total traffic solution.
Information is distributed 24/7 on Traffic.com's interactive website (www.traffic.com) and can be found on selected radio stations, to be joined soon by TV broadcasts. Upcoming wireless reports will include personalized traffic reports and alert messages. In addition to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, web-based Traffic.com service is also available in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Detroit and Baltimore.
