Warren Buys Pennzoil Plant

SAN ANTONIO, Texas--Warren Oil Co. of Dunn, N.C. has bought the Pennzoil-Quaker State Co. packaging plant here. Warren also is buying the marketing rights and product technology for several Pennzoil non-strategic brands, plus certain private label contracts.

The San Antonio facility has operated as a blending and packaging facility since the formation of the Pennzoil-Quaker State Co. in late 1998. The plant formulates and supplies lubricants to the Southwestern market.

Warren currently operates blending and packaging facilities both in Dunn and in Benton, Ala. The company owns 17 registered trademarks for generic brands of lubricants and produces more than 25 private label oils for various corporations throughout the United States.

“Through the acquisition of this Texas based Pennzoil-Quaker State Co. plant, we now have better logistics and greater capacities to more efficiently service customers throughout the United States, in the mass merchandiser, auto parts, hardware, home improvement, grocery, drug and convenience store markets,” said Irvin Warren, the operation’s owner. The company exports to more than 14 foreign countries.

The San Antonio plant is one of several assets that Pennzoil has concluded are “not strategic to its long-term goals,” according to the company.
