New Penn Enhances Web Site With Early Warning Capability, New Shipment Reports, and Instant Document Retrieval

LEBANON, Pa.--Jan. 22, 2001--New Penn Motor Express, Inc., a subsidiary of Arnold Industries, Inc., has made several enhancements to its interactive customer web site, www.newpenn.com.
Enhancements include a report that provides shippers early warning of exception shipments, new reports for third-party shippers, a summary of freight payables and instant retrieval of proof of delivery and bill of lading documents. All of the enhancements are in the password-protected portion of New Penn's web site to provide additional information regarding shipments made by a specific customer.

    Early Warning Exception Report

A new option under the Shipment Reports feature lists only those outbound shipments where a possible delay in transit has occurred. The report lists those shipments that have not yet delivered and are currently not out for delivery.
"Within our next-day delivery network, any shipment that is not out for delivery by 10:00 AM has likely been delayed beyond our standard service. In many cases, the reason for delay is that the consignee requires a delivery appointment. Unfortunately, the shipper may have promised next-day delivery and was unaware that the receiver requires a delivery appointment. Our new report provides shippers the opportunity to review these exception shipments and take appropriate action before it becomes a problem," said Steve Ginter, New Penn's vice president of marketing.

    Third-Party Reports

The site now includes several report options summarizing those shipments requiring third-party payment.
"Our customers who arrange and pay for shipments where they are neither the actual shipper or receiver, including third-party logistics companies, have requested additional visibility of their shipments. Several report options now provide the charges and shipment status for these customers," added Ginter.

    Freight Payables Reports

A new report format includes a list of all of the customer's open freight invoices that are payable to New Penn and more than 30 days old.
"Freight payments are often made by another department or even an outside agency. Transportation department customer contacts can now monitor the status of their freight payables with a few mouse clicks. The new report can improve the communication within the freight payment process of our customers," noted Ginter.

    Instant Document Retrieval

A new document imaging system allows customers to view proof of delivery and bill of lading documents on their PC screen. If desired, the customer can then print the document, or have it automatically faxed to another person.
"In the past 18 months, thousands of our customers have registered at www.newpenn.com as the World Wide Web continues to gain importance as a tool to improve their productivity and gain visibility of their supply chain. By integrating our computerized dispatch system with on-board computers, document imaging and a user-friendly web site, New Penn has become a leader in motor carrier information technology that maximizes customer service and internal efficiencies," said Ginter.
