Johnson Controls Finalizes Seven-Year Contract With
Novartis
ATLANTA, Jan. 22 Johnson Controls, Inc. has finalized its previously announced
seven-year contract with Novartis for the delivery of integrated
facility management and infrastructure services at four sites across Novartis'
Basel, Switzerland headquarters. The contract is believed to be one of the
largest outsourcing agreements in Central Europe. The agreement firmly
establishes Johnson Controls position as the leading supplier of integrated
facility management in Central Europe.
The four sites comprise 17 million square feet of manufacturing, research
and development and administrative operations in support of Novartis'
healthcare business. Johnson Controls will standardize facility management
service delivery to Novartis and also provide technical services that include
production support, fire, security, synthetics technology and company health
services. Johnson Controls will deliver guaranteed savings to Novartis and
plans to retain every Novartis employee impacted by the agreement. To this
effect, approximately 900 Novartis staff currently based in Basel have been
transferred to employment with Johnson Controls. For a two-year transition
period, Novartis will have minority holdings in a joint venture, Johnson
Controls IFM AG.
"The award of the Novartis contract strengthens Johnson Controls' base for
the delivery of integrated facility management services in Central Europe,"
shares Mike Friedl, Chief Executive Officer, Johnson Controls IFM AG. "We are
excited about the level of talented people that are joining us from Novartis.
As our business grows in Central Europe, these employees will have many
opportunities for further career growth with Johnson Controls."
"Our performance track record with 12 pharmaceutical industry clients gave
us the competitive edge in securing the Novartis contract," said Robert
Netolicka, President of Integrated Facility Management. "We are looking
forward to building upon our reputation as the leader of outsourcing services
worldwide with high-level service delivery to Novartis."
