American Axle Forges Ahead

DETROIT--American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. (AAM), has been awarded a new forging contract with Stanadyne Automotive.

AAM’s MSP Industries subsidiary will manufacture forgings for a new Stanadyne diesel engine fuel pump shaft beginning in this year. This business is in addition to new forging-based components and other contracts awarded to AAM and its subsidiaries Colfor Manufacturing and MSP Industries in 2000.

AAM will forge and machine more than 30 components for 10 customers as a result of the new contracts signed in 2000. These components will appear in future automotive and light truck applications. These new contracts, including Stanadyne Automotive, represent total annual sales of about $60 million for AAM.

“As we continue to diversify our customer base, we anticipate further growth in the forging sector of our business,” said Ronald J. Allman, AAM vice president, Forging Division. “More than 60 percent of this new business is with customers other than General Motors.”

In addition to its 14 locations in the United States (in Michigan, New York and Ohio), AAM also has offices and facilities in Brazil, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Scotland.
