PSI Mirror Pumps-Up Retailers
DETROIT--In the midst of increased consumer interest in tire pressure monitoring systems, Johnson Controls has teamed up with Detroit-area Goodyear Gemini Automotive Care Retailers to hold a special three-month introductory offer--beginning Jan. 29--on its PSI rear-view mirror mounted tire pressure monitoring system. The system includes a specially designed rear-view mirror and four tire pressure monitoring sensors.
JCI’s alignment with Goodyear Gemini Automotive Care Retailers provides installation of the PSI mirror by a qualified tire dealer and enables consumers to get the PSI technology before it is launched as original equipment in the 2002 model year.
As part of the introductory offer on the system, participating Gemini retailers will deduct 50 percent off the PSI installation fee or provide free installation with the purchase of four new tires. Free tire rotation, alignment verification and a steering and suspension inspection will also be included in the purchase of the product.
The PSI rear-view mirror uses radio frequency (RF) technology to deliver timely and accurate pressure information within one pound per square inch (psi). Small transmitters integrated into special tire valves send data directly to a receiver integrated within a windshield-mounted rear-view mirror. When the system is activated, the actual pressure of each tire is shown on a back-lit display.
“Studies conducted by Johnson Controls’ Consumer Research Group indicate that 80 percent of consumers think a tire pressure monitoring system is an important vehicle feature,” said Jim Geschke, vice president and general manager of electronics integration. “This mirror also proves our commitment to providing consumers with unmatched electronic products.”
“Unveiled at the 2000 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show last fall, the PSI system assures drivers that their vehicles’ tires are properly inflated, resulting in improved performance in key areas, such as fuel economy and drivability. The mirror fits most top-selling vehicles in the United States and can be quickly and easily installed,” he said.
“As a leading supplier of automotive interiors and electronics, we are proud to meet our customers’ needs with a system that has superior technology, is reliable and easy to use,” said Geschke.
