VideoMirror Reflects On CES Award

LAS VEGAS--Donnelly’s VideoMirror Camera Vision System is among “The 30 Best of CES,” an award that recognizes the most outstanding new products on display at the Consumer Electronics Show here.

The VideoMirror Camera Vision system utilizes an interior and exterior camera and a flip down, hideaway video screen that attaches to the rearview mirror. The in-vehicle camera system, BabyVue, allows drivers to see rear-facing infants in the back seat. The exterior camera system, ReversAid, provides drivers with an enhanced view of behind the automobile.

Both systems are part of the company’s child automotive safety line.

“Our market research shows that the timing is right for cameras in cars,” explained Frank O’Brien, Donnelly’s vice president of corporate marketing and consumer products. “Being selected as one of the best 30 technology systems among so many outstanding high tech products at CES validates that research.”

Products are nominated for their innovative appeal, their usefulness and their affordability. Being nominated for the Best of CES awards automatically brands the product as one of the hottest new products to be available in 2001, and provides consumers with assurance of quality and capability, O’Brien said.

VideoMirror with BabyVue and ReversAid was nominated in the automotive, marine and RV category. Other products considered in this category included XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Radio.

Donnelly’s Panoramic Vision System, which replaces rear view mirrors, was displayed on the General Motors Precept at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show. In addition, Donnelly is the creator of SmartRelease, a trunk release system that uses intelligent technology to automatically free even the smallest children.

The company has been based in Holland, Mich. since 1905, and today has some 6,100 employees worldwide. Donnelly maintains 14 U.S. facilities, and operates from international subsidiaries located in Mexico, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Portugal and joint ventures in the US, Brazil, China and Malaysia.
