Rover Rates Kiplinger’s Safety Nod

LANHAM, Md.--The 2001 Range Rover 4.6 HSE model has received Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine’s “First for Safety” award for sport utility vehicles. The magazine issued the award in its December 2000 edition as part of a special section entitled, “The Best New Cars.”

According to Kiplinger’s, the First for Safety award is based on two objective measures that include “a vehicle’s safety record, as measured by injury-claims data maintained by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI),” and the presence of “safety features, such as anti-lock brakes and traction control” on the SUV.

The Highway Loss Data Institute and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are independent, nonprofit, research and communications organizations that serve the insurance industry by reducing highway crash deaths, injuries and property losses.

“We are very proud that our Range Rover has received the 'First for Safety' award for sport-utility vehicles,” said Howard Mosher, president and CEO of Land Rover North America Inc. “Land Rover strives to build the most capable sport utility vehicles in the world-and a best-in-class award from a source like Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine is proof positive that we are doing our job.”

The British-built 2001 Range Rover and Discovery Series II models from Land Rover feature body-on-frame construction that incorporates reinforced, boxed-steel, ladder-style frames.
