Cool Device Thwarts ‘Hot-Wiring’

IRVINE, Calif.--PowerLock, an auto security device that reportedly eliminates the possibility of thieves “hot-wiring” a vehicle, is available for the first time this holiday season.

According to the manufacturer, PowerLock attaches permanently to a vehicle’s starter motor and cannot be circumvented by cutting and jumping ignition wires, the hot-wiring technique used by professional car thieves in 90 percent of stolen car cases nationwide.

“Auto thefts continue despite all the security products currently available, such as car alarms, steering wheel and pedal locks, and expensive electronic tracking systems,” said James Cooper, chief executive officer at Ultimate Security Systems Corp. (USSC), which makes the PowerLock.

“Our patented product is the first auto security device that attacks the problem of car theft directly by never allowing a thief to start the car, and cannot be bypassed the way all other devices can,” Cooper said.

PowerLock’s system control/key reader is mounted either under the dash or on the dash and is wired to a module connected to the starter solenoid. The solenoid module controls the current to the starting circuitry and is permanently attached to the starter motor with patented one-way interlocking jaws. The module cannot be removed without destroying the starter motor.

After installation, a PowerLock owner simply places an electronic, coded key against the key reader to deactivate the system and start the car. The key’s random electronic access code cannot be duplicated. When the ignition is turned off, the system automatically rearms after 45 seconds.

A Valet Mode allows for temporary deactivation of the system for parking attendants, auto service and repairs, or car washes.

PowerLock is designed to fit all foreign and domestic makes and models. The device does not affect vehicle emissions, electrical or ignition systems, existing security systems or keyless entry, or void any warranties.

The product has a $10,000 lifetime anti-theft guarantee.
