Pennzoil Mars Prizes Awarded

HOUSTON, Texas--Shock, surprise and disbelief were just a few of the emotions that Jennifer Evatt felt when she read her certified congratulations letter. As the grand prize winner of Pennzoil Synthetic motor oil’s Mission to Mars sweepstakes, Evatt won $100,000.

“I’m always entering sweepstakes and dreaming about what I would do if I won,” said Evatt, who learned about the sweepstakes at her local AutoZone. “But, I’ve never won anything. I must have read my letter 100 times just to make sure what I was reading was true! I still can’t believe it.”

“I have one of the best jobs at Pennzoil-Quaker State Co.,” said Brad Welshans, Pennzoil’s senior retail marketing manager. “I have the privilege of personally thanking our customers for their loyalty, handing them a check and seeing the sheer delight on their faces.”

The Pennzoil Synthetic/”Mission to Mars” sweepstakes was launched in January of this year. Pennzoil chose the space-themed promotion as a way to educate consumers about the benefits of Pennzoil Synthetic motor oil with Pennzane, a full-synthetic motor oil introduced late last year.

Pennzane, a component of the motor oil, has been manufactured by Pennzoil and used to lubricate satellites and other space mechanisms since 1987. In addition to the full-synthetic oil, Pennzoil introduced a line of synthetic-blend motor oil products, as well as Synthetic Blend ATF, Synthetic Grease and Synthetic Gear Lube.

The first prize winner, Shirley Hungate from Dayton, Ohio, won $15,000. “I was waiting to have my oil changed at Jiffy Lube and thought what the heck, why not enter the sweepstakes,” said Hungate. “I still can’t believe I won $15,000. This is wonderful and just perfect timing, as my car has been giving me problems.”

The second place winner was from Golden, Colo. The prize was a VIP trip to the Kennedy Space Center.

Consumers were eligible for the sweepstakes by completing a mail-in offer.
