Bigger Wheel For 18-Wheelers

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--Accuride Corp. is replacing traditional dual wheel sets with one DupleX-One 22.5-inch x 14-inch wheel on tandem-axle tractors and trailers.

“The DupleX-One provides numerous benefits to the driver. In addition to increasing payload capacity, installation of the DupleX-One will allow drivers to improve ride quality, reduce downtime, and incur fuel savings,” according to Larry Taylor, vice president of sales and marketing for Accuride’s Heavy Vehicle Operations.

The DupleX-One system will increase overall payload capacity per axle end by about 120 pounds, resulting in an overall increase in truck and trailer payload capacity by 990 pounds.

“When truck and trailer owners do the math, it should become evident that the installation of Accuride’s DupleX-One wheels will have a positive impact on their bottom line,” Taylor said.

Made from both steel and aluminum, the wheel is available on new trucks from Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star and through trailer manufacturers.
