8 Suppliers Deep-6 Joint Website

DETROIT--A group of eight aftermarket suppliers have deep-sixed plans to form a joint Internet site. The proposed venture had been aimed at cutting purchasing and distribution costs.

“Each company is now pursuing its own respective approach to e-business,” said Kevin Moyer, vice president and director of e-business at Dana Corp., speaking on behalf of the participating suppliers.

“Through this collaborative exploration, we gained a better understanding of this new technology and how to use it to work most effectively with our respective customers,” said Moyer. “As a result of these studies, each participating company has gained extensive knowledge about supply chain management and how to more effectively support the e-business efforts of its customers, including the aftermarket segment,” he said

“Additional findings included how to improve competitiveness by increasing speed and responsiveness, and how to reduce costs at all levels of the value chain,” according to Moyer.

The suppliers included in the proposal were Dana, Delphi Automotive Systems Corp., Eaton Corp., Robert Bosch Corp., Tenneco Automotive, The Timken Co., TRW Inc. and Valeo
