F-M Wins $400 Mil. Contract
SOUTHFIELD, Mich.--Federal-Mogul Corp. has been awarded a contract to design and supply a Power Cylinder System for an undisclosed major automotive manufacturer. The agreement, expected to generate nearly $400 million over the anticipated life of the program, is the fourth Power Cylinder System contract awarded to Federal-Mogul this year.
The company expects to begin producing the Power Cylinder System in 2002.
This award further validates our expertise and growing reputation as a provider of engine systems and modules, said Alan Johnson, executive vice president for the Americas and Asia. Importantly, we will be responsible for the overall design of the system, and will coordinate the integration of the various engineered components. Having responsibility for system design reflects our customers confidence in our ability to develop a complete Power Cylinder System that addresses the need for engine performance, emission control and fuel economy.
He said Federal-Moguls ready-to-install Power Cylinder System is a totally integrated system thats lighter, more durable, more cost-efficient and easier to install than components assembled conventionally. The system brings together Federal-Mogul's comprehensive design expertise in pistons, piston rings, connecting rods, bearings and cylinder liners.
In July, Federal-Mogul announced it had been awarded three contracts by two major auto manufacturers for Power Cylinder Systems valued at $900 million over the contract periods.
