C&A Lands PT Cruiser Floor Mats Deal

TROY, Mich.--Collins & Aikman Corp. has landed a multi-year agreement with DaimlerChrylser to supply floor mats and carpet for both the right- and left-hand models of the 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser car to be built at DaimlerChrysler’s Graz, Austria plant.

The floor mats and carpets will be produced at Collins & Aikman’s European facilities located in Belgium and Austria. DaimlerChrysler will then distribute the PT Cruiser for sale throughout Europe. As major OEMs such as DaimlerChrysler require localization for their components and systems, the location of the automotive supplier facilities weighs heavily into the decision-making process, according to the company.

“As a key supplier for DaimlerChrysler, we were pleased to secure this long-term agreement. Winning this new business on the popular PT Cruiser is testimony that DaimlerChrysler is confident in our ability to supply high-quality products for their vehicles worldwide,” said Brian J. Batey, president of Collins & Aikman’s European Automotive Interior System Division. “I believe that as Collins & Aikman continues to strengthen its European and North American sales and marketing structure, we can be a candidate for more business opportunities.”

Collins & Aikman provides floor and acoustic systems along with automotive fabric, interior trim and convertible top systems. The company’s operations span the globe with 63 facilities and more than 15,000 employees in 12 countries.
