BOLDER Floats Boat Battery

GOLDEN, Colo.--BOLDER Technologies Corp. is entering the boat battery business. The company has three new products based on its patented Thin Metal Film technology, including its first entry into the market for marine batteries.

These items will be introduced to the marketplace early next year, according to Roger F. Warren, chairman, president and CEO.

The new SecureStart “SideKick 900” Intelligent Marine Starting Battery System is designed to enable boat owners to enjoy the benefits of guaranteed starting and extended service life capability to run electronic accessories. The SideKick 900 is not a jump starter; instead, when it is connected to an existing marine battery, it will automatically assume the starting function, thus eliminating the need of the existing battery to start a boat engine.

Weighing five pounds, the SideKick 900 is based on the TMF technology and contains sophisticated smart circuitry and a switching mechanism. “As a result, the existing traditional marine battery can devote most of its energy to powering the increasing number of electronic accessories that boat owners now utilize. The traditional marine battery ensures that the SideKick 900 always has enough power to start the engine,” said Warren. “In addition, boat owners will experience a 40 percent increase in accessory run time and up to a 400 percent increase in battery system life, depending on the type of traditional battery the SideKick 900 is connected to.

The new SecureStart MINI MAX 900 Auto Jump Starter has already generated a “high level of retailer and distributor enthusiasm for its powerful performance capability, very small compact size and competitive pricing,” Warren said.

The product is small in size, designed ideally to fit into a glove compartment or side door panel. It holds a charge for up to a year in storage and can be recharged in minutes.

Warren commented, “We believe that this consumer-friendly jump starter product will significantly accelerate the growth of the existing auto jump starter market because of its broad appeal. And, given that Triple A (AAA) receives a ‘dead battery’ call every nine seconds, many consumers who have not previously considered purchasing a jump starter product might do so in the future.”

The new SecureStart “ULTRA” Portable Jump Starter and Emergency Portable Power Center will incorporate an added feature of emergency portable power that will enable the user to run electronic devices such as cell phones, radios, portable TVs and florescent lanterns for many hours. It will continue to generate 900 peak amps for auto and marine engine jump starting and will also feature a powerful halogen flashlight. This new unit weighs less than six pounds and will stay charged for up to two years in storage.

Meanwhile, Paul C. Kelly, currently BOLDER’s financial controller, has been appointed chief financial officer, effective Oct. 9, replacing Joseph F. Fojtasek, who has resigned.
