New Chief Financial Officer Named at BorgWarner

    CHICAGO, March 16 John F. Fiedler, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of BorgWarner Inc. , announced today that George
E. Strickler, 53, has joined the company as Executive Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer.  He succeeds Larry B. Skatoff, 61, who is retiring for
personal family reasons.
    "During the past year, Larry Skatoff has been very successful in
establishing the strategic role of Chief Financial Officer at BorgWarner and
in helping guide our profitable growth," said John Fiedler.  "We look to
George Strickler, with his depth of finance and operating experience, to
continue to build our critical financial leadership.  I am also pleased that
Larry has agreed to continue to share his financial and planning expertise
with the company on a consulting basis."
    Mr. Strickler most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer of Lake West, a retail consulting firm, where he was
responsible for managing their financial service practice area and directing
their financial activities.  He previously had a 30-year career with Goodyear
Tire & Rubber Company where he served in a variety of senior finance and
operating roles, including Vice President of Finance for North American Tires,
and Corporate Vice President of Financial Operations and Comptroller.
    Mr. Strickler holds a BS in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University
and an MBA in Finance from the University of Akron.  He completed the Advanced
Management Program at Harvard University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
