Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 23 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 295,007 units,
down from the 317,656 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 2,266,758 vehicles, down 21.7 percent from like-2000's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 202,315 vehicles this
week, down 10.0 percent from the 224,786 cars and trucks built last week.  To
date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 1,587,140 units,
down 24.7 percent from the 2,107,863 vehicles built in like-2000.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 54,752, a 2.2
percent decrease from the 56,000 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 405,886 units, down
22.0 percent compared to the 520,568 vehicles produced in like-2000.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 28.6 percent; Ford Motor Co., 28.7 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.3 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.9
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.8
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.8 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.0 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.8 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.2 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.0 percent.
