Nissan Unveils a Supercharged Xterra and a Longer Frontier
Crew Cab At Chicago Auto Show
CHICAGO, Feb. 7 Nissan today unveiled two rugged and aggressive production
vehicles -- the restyled, supercharged 2002 Xterra sport utility vehicle and
the 2002 Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed, the first compact crew cab with a
full-size bed -- at the 2001 Chicago Auto Show. Both vehicles will go on sale
in August 2001.
The introductions come at a time of tremendous momentum for Nissan
worldwide, following the November 20, 2000 announcement of dramatically
improved financial results of $1.24 billion operating profit for the first six
months of its fiscal year. Nissan North America has also seen a dramatic
increase in sales for the 2000 calendar year, posting an 11.1% increase from
1999.
Following the introduction of the award-winning Xterra in 2000, Nissan has
again raised the bar for all compact sport utility vehicles with the
introduction of the 2002 Xterra. The 2002 model features a dramatic restyling
of the front end, a supercharged V6 engine option (the first in the compact
SUV class) and a revised interior with a new instrument panel and available
300-watt Rockford Fosgate(R)-powered audio system.
Nissan continues its truck innovation with the introduction of the 2002
Nissan Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed, the first compact crew cab pickup to offer
a full-size bed. The Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed will be available in all trim
levels, including XE, SE and the supercharged S/C. Other improvements for the
Frontier lineup include a redesigned instrument panel and console and an
available 400-watt Rockford Fosgate(R)-powered audio system.
This introduction comes hot on the heels of the exterior redesign of the
Frontier, which debuted last year in Chicago with the first available (in a
compact truck) factory-installed supercharged engine, leather-appointed
interior and innovative, industrial-look exterior styling. The 2002 Frontier
will be available in 19 total available configurations.
Also shown at the Nissan stand in Chicago are the three stunning vehicles
unveiled at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in
January -- the 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R sports sedan, the Alpha T full-size
truck design concept and the Z(R) Concept, a close-to-production version of
the all-new 2003 Z sports car.
