Chrysler Group Announces January U.S. Sales and February
Production Schedule
Chrysler PT Cruiser Sets All Time Sales Record
SUV Sales Jump Eight Percent
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 1 Chrysler Group reported U.S.
sales of 160,680 units in January, a 16 percent decline compared to the same
month last year.
Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) sales of 53,700 units represent an eight
percent increase compared to January 2000. Chrysler PT Cruiser all time
record sales of 13,475 were up 18 percent compared to last month.
Total truck sales of 117,617 dropped 14 percent compared to the same
period last year, total car sales of 43,063 units were down 22 percent and
minivan sales of 25,453 dipped 39 percent.
"Industry sales actually came out higher than expected," said Dieter
Zetsche, Chrysler Group President and CEO. "In January, we lost some momentum
in the marketplace because of the uncertainty surrounding our recovery. By
announcing a major portion of our turnaround plan earlier this week, we will
recapture that momentum."
Based on Chrysler Group's First Quarter Production Schedule, announced
last month, the following plants will be idled in February:
