Nissan Reports January Sales Down 4.4%

    CARSON, Calif., Feb. 1 Nissan Division today posted a
4.4 percent decrease in car and truck sales last month compared with sales in
January 2000.  Sales of the supercharged Frontier compact pickup truck helped
keep momentum rolling in Nissan truck sales.
    Combined U.S. sales for Nissan and Infiniti divisions totaled
50,489 vehicles in January, a 6.6 percent decrease compared with the same
month last year.
    Frontier sales, buoyed by sales of the Frontier SC, totaled 7,925 vehicles
in January, a 2 percent increase compared with January 2000, while Sentra
maintained its strong performance with 7,146 vehicles, a 141 percent increase
compared to last year.

    Other January sales highlights include:
     -- Altima sales of 10,668
     -- Sentra sales of 7,146
     -- Maxima sales of 6,777
     -- Xterra sales of 5,409
     -- Pathfinder sales of 5,626
     -- Quest sales of 1,636
