Breakfast with Joe Leonard in Daytona

22 December 2000

Breakfast with Joe Leonard in Daytona

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Any breakfast in Daytona during Bike Week is good,

but a Bike Week breakfast with two-time Daytona 200 winner Joe Leonard will

always be better?and that's the idea behind the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum

Breakfast, set for the morning of Saturday, March 10, 2001 in DeLand.

A fund-raiser for the museum, the $15 breakfast is open to the public and

features a talk by Leonard, the first champion of the AMA Grand National Series

who has won 27 Nationals in the disciplines of TT, mile, half-mile and road

racing. He won the Laconia Classic three times, the Peoria TT a remarkable seven

times and is a three-time Grand National Champion.

The Daytona Breakfast is an excellent opportunity to hear Leonard discuss

his racing days as the hard-charging rider who burned up the tracks on his

Harley-Davidson when he won eight nationals in one season.

Leonard, who will be available to sign autographs at the breakfast, was

inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998. He lives in San Jose, Calif.

In addition to his fame on two wheels, Leonard was also a United States Auto

Club national title-holder in 1971 and 1972. He may be best remembered for

almost winning the 1968 Indianapolis 500 in a turbine-powered car, which broke

with only nine laps remaining.

The breakfast will be held at 8 a.m., March 10 at the Holiday Inn in

DeLand, conveniently close to the Jerry Wood Daytona Antique & Classic

Motorcycle Auction and Bike Show. Other highlights of the breakfast include an

update from Mark Mederski, Executive Director of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame

Museum, including details about upcoming exhibits, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days

in July and a special announcement about the 2001 Hall of Fame Induction

Ceremony.

The Daytona Breakfast is a fundraiser for the Motorcycle Hall of Fame

Museum. Seats for the presentation are $15 per person. For an additional

donation of $25 or more, you will be listed as an Associate Sponsor in the

"Friend Raising Breakfast" program and recognized during the event. Attendance

at the breakfast is not necessary to be listed as an Associate Sponsor.

The Museum is also seeking breakfast sponsors. Event sponsorships are

available for a donation of $500 or more. This level of sponsorship provides

individuals, businesses and clubs the opportunity to make a donation to the

Museum and receive special recognition for it at the Daytona Breakfast, one of

the premier heritage events of Bike Week.

All donations to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum are tax-deductible and

will be used to support the mission of the Museum to preserve the history and

heritage of motorcycling. For reservations, to find out how to become a sponsor

or for more information, contact the museum at (614) 856-2222, ext. 1234.
