Motor Racing Legends Nominated For Eagle One-Shav Glick Award

Carlsbad, Calif., November 17, 2000 -- John Force, Parnelli Jones, Rick Mears, Wally Parks and Les Richter have been nominated for the second annual Eagle One-Shav Glick Award, presented by the appearance care products company for distinguished achievement in motor racing by a Californian. The award, which honors the esteemed motor sports writer of the Los Angeles Times, will be given April 29, 200l at the NASCAR NAPA Auto Parts 500, at California Speedway. Force is a ten-time NHRA Funny Car drag racing champion and was Motor Racing Driver of the Year in 1996. Jones won the Indy 500 in 1963 and was co-owner of cars that won the 1970 and 1971 Indy 500. Parks founded the National Hot Rod Assn. and is a member of the Automotive Hall of Fame. Mears was a four-time winner of the Indy 500 and three-time CART national champion. Richter was president and overseer of Riverside International Raceway for 23 years and a leading force in the building of California Speedway. Judges are: Mike Harris, Associated Press; Bill Center, San Diego Union-Tribune; Jim Short, Riverside Press-Enterprise; Doug Stokes, Irwindale Speedway; Mary Ellen-Wright Rana, Laguna Seca Raceway; John Zimmermann, Racer magazine; and Dan Gurney, winner of this year's Glick Award.
