Tracks: Wear a costume October 28 at Irwindale, get half price ticket
23 October 2000
Irwindale, Calif. - - Fans wearing a full Halloween costume to the Speedway on Saturday night October 28 will not only get in for half price (Adults $7.50 and Kids 12 - 6 $2.50) but they will also be eligible for a nice fat gift certificate from two of Irwindale's great associate sponsors. The costume contest, judged by track announcer Bruce Flanders, will net the adult winner a $250 gift certificate from Food 4 Less, and the junior winner a $100 certificate from Circuit City. "We're expecting a whole lot of little Jeff Gordon's, Tony Stewart's and Earnhardt's," said the Speedway's racing "voice". "I'm sort of looking forward to the judging, but I expect it to be a tough job based on the creativity that I know our fans are capable of." Costumes do not have to be racing-themed to win the gift certificates, and everyone who comes in full costume will get in for half-price on Saturday night. Special Halloween-style fireworks will be part of the festivities and the two lucky winners will be given a special lap of honor in the Advantage Ford Mustang Convertible Pace Car prior to the start of the main event of the evening. A 100-lap Food 4 Less NASCAR Super Late Model race with a rich $7,500 purse is the featured event, along with racing events for both the fast Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks and the feisty Legends Cars. Tickets for the above great night of racing are only $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids and are available at all the usual places including www.tickets.com, (626) 358-1100, or in person at the on-site box office. Fans are urged to get their tickets early and to come out to the Speedway early to get a good look at the cars and drivers as they prepare and qualify for the night's racing. The track's ticket office opens at noon, grandstand gates open at 4:00 p.m. and there's plenty to do (for example: a free live band, free car club show, practice, qualifying, pre-event contests, the Alta Dena Milk Chugs autograph session, plenty of people-watching, LugNut Junior's antics, NASCAR Trivia, etc.) right up to showtime at 7:00 p.m.
