Longer Run at LVMS' Bullring Like Old Times for Woodside
21 September 2000
September 18, 2000 (Palmdale, Calif.) - If Sean Woodside, driver of the REF Motorsports #4 Pontiac in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, has an advantage going into this Saturday night's Starnursery.com 250 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's 3/8-mile Bullring, it is the experience he gained in running long races on short tracks during his three-year run in the NASCAR Winston West Series. The Starnursery.com 250, which is long in comparison to the average Southwest Series event, represents what some hope is a trend toward longer races in the series, complete with live pit stops. Woodside's experience in the longer Winston West events includes 250 lap events at several short tracks throughout the west, including wins three years in a row in the October Classic Winston West event at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. Woodside and REF Motorsports hope to translate that experience into a win in this weekend's event. "Our experience this year has been that we've been better toward the end of the races than at the beginning. Hopefully, that will be to our advantage this weekend. We typically haven't started at the front, but we've worked our way up there from the back a number of times this year. Our goal is always to be there at the end and, hopefully, be in contention for the win." Team owner Bob Farmer agreed with Woodside, "This car tends to run well in the longer races. The team has been going over it from front to back to make sure it's in top condition for this weekend, and we feel pretty good going into this event. Thanks to Sean's experience in the Winston West, he knows how to keep the car under himself in a long run. We expect to go in prepared, give him the car he needs to win, and do our best throughout the race to help get him there." Woodside won the 1999 NASCAR Winston West series championship after finishing second in the point standings in the series in 1997 and 1998. REF Motorsports finished 6th in the Southwest Series points standings in 1999, with six top five and seven top ten finishes during the season. The team is currently fourth in the point standings in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, with one win, four top five and seven top ten finishes.
