Tracks: Rain sets up double features on July 7th at Fonda

Fonda, NY, After a two-hour rain delay at the beginning of the night, Ric Lucia and staff thought they had their Thursday night show in the bag. Mother Nature had different ideas, however. She dumped a heavy shower on the "Track of Champions," just as the final mod consi took the checker.This set up double 358 modified features for the next Fonda 358 Tour show on July 7th. Brett Hearn was on hand on Thursday to try and stop Mike Romano's win streak in the special events at Fonda this season. Hearn will return on the 7th. Fonda regular, Jeff Trombley returned but not with his familiar No. 21J. Trombley's 358 mod is now the No. 23.
With the heats and consis in, the qualified cars showed as follows: Heat #1, John Kollar, Ron Holmes, Bob Savoie, Bobby Varin. Heat #2, Bobby Albert, Jeff Trombley, Rich Ricci, Denny Young. Heat #3, Brian Gathen, Tim Clemons, Matt DeLorenzo, Bob Vedder. Heat #4, Mike Fusco, Mike Romano, Alton Palmer, Hector Stratton. The consolation qualifiers were: Consi #1, Ken Hanson, Paul Luskin, Frank Hoard, Tim Dwyer, Mike Ballestero. Consi #2, Brett Hearn, Dave Lape, Brian Borst, Nick Ryan, Paul Parker.
The only event in the books on Thursday was the Street Stock "A" feature. After spinning on the backstretch halfway through the event, Bob VanAernam of Johnstown, NY recovered and was able to grabbed the lead from Ken Barth on the final lap to take his second win of the season. Barth was the early leader but could not hold off the challenges of VanAernam on the final circuit.
