FMDRS--U.S. 13 Dragway--Final results

MANZO SHOWS WHY HE IS NATIONAL CHAMPION WITH A WIN AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY

DELMAR, Delaware -After getting beat out of the No. 1 qualifying
position in Federal-Mogul Funny Car by up-in-comer, Craig English of Mt.
Holly, N.J., three-time defending Federal-Mogul Funny Car Champion Frank
Manzo of Morganville, N.J. came back in Sunday's eliminations and made the
field pay at the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at U.S. 13 Dragway.
In Federal-Mogul Dragster, Cliff Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J. came back to
U.S. 13 Dragway after a horrific crash last year and took home the win.
Manzo came into today's eliminations at U.S. 13 Dragway in an
unfamiliar position-No. 2. Second year Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver,
English took away the No. 1 spot yesterday with the quickest run of the
weekend until he met up with Manzo in the final round. Manzo had a
relatively easy first and semifinal round due to both Darrell Cox of
Whiteford, Md. and Fran Monaghan of Willow Grove,Pa. breaking at
half-track. This didn't slow Manzo down-he made first and semifinal runs
of 6.042 seconds and 6.036 seconds, respectively. Manzo ran in the low
6.0's all weekend and stepped up in the final with low e.t. of the event, a
pass of 5.970 seconds at 241.48 mph to defeat English's run of 6.363
seconds at 212.46.
"I was really mad after yesterday's qualifying," said Manzo. "I
give English all the credit-he saw an opening and took it, but today was a
different story. I'm happy--we took the win and now I need to get some
rest for the Federal-Mogul Allstars next week in Columbus."
In Federal-Mogul Dragster, Cliff Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J. was on a
mission after a bad wreck at in last years Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series
event at U.S. 13 Dragway. In the first round, Bozzelli met up with Bruce
Horner of Bergenfield, N.J. and took the win with a run of 5.886 seconds at
238.22 mph but lost an engine after the finish line. After almost missing
the call to run, Bozzelli lost another engine in the semifinals but took
the win over Steven Cantrell of Wilmington, De. who also slowed due to
problems on the track. In the final, Bozzelli took on No. 1 qualifier
Jeanie Booz of Blooming Glen, Pa. Bozzelli left her standing on the
starting line with a stellar .461 reaction time to Booz's .604. At the
finish, it was a holeshot win for Bozzelli with a run of 5.835 seconds at
238.91 mph to Booz's quicker pass of 5.822 seconds at 241.87 mph.
"I came back here to prove to myself that I could look past what
happened last year," said an ecstatic Bozzelli. "I really love this track.
I got my first win here in 1992 and I am so happy I got to come back and
win again."

Also collecting wins on Sunday were: Dave Northrop of Perkasie, Pa. in
Comp; Peter Biondo of Clarksburg, N.J. in Super Stock; Jack Matyas of
Bethleham, Pa. in Stock; Kathy Mattos of Coopersburg, Pa. in Super Comp;
