Franchitti looks for repeat performance at Tenneco Automotive GP of Detroit

1 June 2000

DETROIT (June 1, 2000) - Champ Car driver Dario Franchitti returned to The
Raceway on Belle Isle Park today to assist with track construction for the
19th Annual Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit happening June 16-18.
This time he wasn't behind the wheel of his #27 Team KOOL Green Honda
Reynard but rather at the controls of a forklift.

Franchitti put the final concrete barrier in place along the start-finish
line. His goal is to cross that same line first and capture the checkered
flag again in 2000. It was the site of a very important victory for him
last season. Dario's win in the 1999 Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of
Detroit launched him into the points lead for the first time in his CART
FedEx Championship Series career.

"I have fantastic memories of last year's win in Detroit, and I'm certainly
looking forward to returning to defend the title," stated Dario Franchitti.
"Winning is never easy, especially on a tough and tight circuit like Belle
Isle, so it was a very gratifying win. And to have my teammate Paul Tracy
come home in second for a one-two Team KOOL Green finish made it especially
sweet."

In 1999, Franchitti led all Champ Car drivers in road/street course points
with 128. He lost the championship last year by a tiebreaker process after
ending the season deadlocked at 212 points with Juan Montoya. He hopes his
return to the scenic 2.346-mile temporary street course can catapult him in
the race for the CART championship this season.
