RACE UPDATE
MOHNTON, Pa.- Racing resumed today at Maple Grove Raceway for the NHRA
Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series with Doug Foley and Australian Steve
Harker taking the pole positions in Federal-Mogul Dragster and
Federal-Mogul Funny Car respectively. Foley jumped ahead of Jeanie Booz in
the dragster category with his final qualifying pass of 5.657 seconds at
252.17 mph. Booz, of Blooming Glen, Pa. recorded a pass of 5.710 at 252.80
mph on her first run, but was unable to better it in the afternoon session.
Rich McPhillips, of Phoenixville, Pa., is in the fourth position with a run
of 5.757 seconds at 248.20 mph.
Harker took over the number one spot in funny car when he bettered
his first pass of 5.972 seconds with a lap of 5.700 at 250.90 mph. Harker
will face off against number eight qualifier Jim Lape of Meyerstown, Pa.
who ran a 6.212, 229.35. Local favorite Fran Monaghan of Willow Grove, Pa.
is in the number two position with a 5.779 second run at 246.30 mph.
Eliminations began for all other categories this morning at 8:30
and will continue into the evening. First round of Federal-Mogul Dragster
and Funny Car is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
