Rio 200 #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard April 30, 2000 - Race Notes/Quotes Round 4 of 20 on the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series Nelson Piquet International Raceway - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Brazilian Tony Kanaan and his #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard suffered gearbox trouble that ended a competitive run 69 laps into today's 108-lap Rio 200 at Nelson Piquet International Raceway. Kanaan started ninth, but jumped to sixth on the very first green lap and stayed in the top eight during his entire run. He pitted on Lap 69 having lost third gear, found that he also lost fourth gear, and the car was retired. The next top on this year's 20-race CART FedEx Championship Series tour is May 13 at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan. TONY KANAAN "I'm very very disappointed to have it end this way in our home race, in front of a great showing by our sponsors. The car was running consistently the entire time. We had maybe just a bit too much downforce to be strong down the straightaways, but the car was very consistent. I've got to hand it to this team. We are brand new this year, only four race weekends into the year, and we seem to have a handle on how to be ready for race day. It was fun while it lasted."
