NASCAR Busch - Sam's Town 300, Las Vegas
5 March 2000
NOTES AND QUOTES; SAM'S TOWN 300; MARCH 4; PAGE 1 JASON JARRETT, NO. 11 RAYOVAC PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (42nd place): (ON HIS INCIDENT) "I really don't know what happened. I guess whoever was behind me thee was going to get back on the lead lap back there in about 35th. Some guys checked up in front of me and I was in no position to be running into the back of the them, so I checked up myself. Someone behind me didn't. I hate it for the guys on this Rayovac team. They gave me a good car to qualify with and I just couldn't transfer the information over to long runs for them.. We were pretty bad at the beginning of the race and got behind. I was picking up my lap times as we went, but I just hate it for them. They are the ones that put the hours in. Now we have a torn up race car and we were four laps down. That's uncalled for." JEFF PURVIS, NO. 4 PORTER CABLE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (7th position): "We've had good cars every week. We just needed to finish. The next few races we've got to be conservative and run as fast as we can, but we've got to finish. I've got to get ahead of that 10 car every week because of the points deal. We've got to take it a race at a time and just give it our best effort every time. We had a good car here today. We just fought the chassis back-and-forth through the day. It was good compared to most of them but not as good as a few of them out there. We'll just take it and go back to the shop, see what we've got and see if we can make it better next time." HUT STRICKLIN, NO. 61 IWX PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (10th position): "That was a great place for us to start. We struggled a little bit when we got here and struggled a little bit in practice, too. We did alright I qualifying, but we just could never really seem to get the right combination. We got in the race the best we were. But it just wasn't enough. It just seemed like we could never get our car tightened up in the center of the corner enough to make good time through there. For a while everybody was up there a little bit higher going in and coming off. I tried that, but I could just never make that line work for me. When we got our stuff at its best we could just work the bottom of the racetrack. We could get off the corner as good as anybody here, but we just couldn't get through the center. But this is a good place to start. We would have liked to have been better. But this is really our first time to run a race together, other than Daytona, and it is something totally different anyway. We feel really good about it. Obviously we would have liked to have been better, but we feel like we've got something here to improve on and get it better." DAVE BLANEY, NO. 20 AT&T PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (40th position): (ON TAKING OVER FOR BUSCH TEAMMATE MIKE BORKOWSKI DURING THE RACE) "They were just having trouble with the race car. They came in and did a bunch of work on it and wanted me to go out and make a few laps to see if it felt OK. They got it going after they sat in here and worked on it a little bit." (ANYTHING TRANSLATE TO SUNDAY'S RACE) "I don't know. We might use some of the stuff, but the laps don't hurt." - 30 -
