SCCA: Neville released by Huffaker/Qvale Motorsports
3 December 1999
SONOMA, Calif. -- Huffaker/Qvale Motorsports President Bruce Qvale announced today that the team has released 1999 driver Chris Neville from his contract for the 2000 BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series. No replacement has yet been named, though the team expects to make an announcement within the next few days. "We had a very positive 1999 season with Chris," said Qvale. "Our new sponsor, Tommy Bahama, also enjoyed working with him. We were making plans for 2000 that included Chris, but he came to us recently and said he'd been given an opportunity with another team that he felt he couldn't turn down. Of course we were disappointed, but we also felt that we shouldn't stand in his way, and we released him from his contract with us. We wish him all the best in his new endeavor." Neville and the Huffaker/Motorsports-built, Tommy Bahama-sponsored Trans-Am car finished third in the 1999 season points, scoring a pole at Long Beach, the win at Road America, and three other podium finishes. "It was a real growth experience for me, to be with Joe Huffaker and Bruce Qvale, and the great folks from Tommy Bahama in 1999," said Neville. "It was a really tough decision to make, because I got my first Trans-Am win with them, at Road Atlanta, and I know how excited they are about bringing the new DeTomaso Mangusta to the Trans-Am series next year. I'm sure they'll be successful with that, but this was just something I needed to do." "Chris really helped us develop the Huffaker Engineering chassis this year," stated Huffaker, vice president and technical director of Huffaker/Qvale Motorsports. "With his help, we know we have a race win-capable chassis. It's a shame he won't be along, as we fit it to the new Mangusta bodystyle, to take that chassis to the next level and make it championship-caliber Trans-Am contender. But, I think people will be very excited about the Tommy Bahama DeTomaso Mangusta when they hear who we will have behind the wheel for 2000. Once we're able to make that announcement, we know that we'll have the attenti on of every other team. We're really looking forward to great things in 2000."
