Tracks: Upcoming Races at Irwindale to feature familiar names: Gurney and Luyendyk

OCTOBER 9 RACES AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY TO FEATURE TWO FAMOUS RACING NAMES: GURNEY AND LUYENDYK... Dan's Son Jim (Gurney) and Arie Luyendyk, Jr. Will Both Make IS Driving Debuts Irwindale, Calif. - - Two of the best known names in motorsport will be on the card at Irwindale Speedway this weekend ... Gurney and Luyendyk. Jim and Arie Jr., young sons of racing heroes Dan and Arie, will be racing Super Late Model and Action American Race Truck Series on Saturday night October 9. Jim Gurney's car is sponsored by Toys'R'Us, EZ-Lube, and NAPA Auto Parts, and will be "driven" by Goeffrey the Giraffe (Toys'R'Us' rather tall mascot). Gurney will be running the #48 car in the "FIRSTWORLD 100", a $3,000 to win, open competition race that has the speedway expecting 50 to 60 NASCAR Super Late Model entries. Arie Jr. will be driving the Action American Race Truck Ford on Saturday night. These machines are racing replicas of full-size pickups with identical chassis' and V-8 motors. Also on the card, are the MSRA Pro4 Modifieds and Legends Cars. Ticket windows open at noon, spectator gates open at 2:00 p.m. with practice and qualifying preceding opening ceremonies at 7:00 p.m. Information and tickets by phone may be accessed by calling (626) 358-1100. Located "At the top of the 605 Freeway" on Live Oak Avenue, Irwindale Speedway is freeway-accessible from anywhere in southern California.
