-For Immediate Release- Contact: Elon Werner 972-878-2641 Big Tex Welcomes Motorplex (September 23, 1999) Ennis, TX --- The Texas Motorplex and the State Fair of Texas are teaming up September 25 - October 17, 1999, to give fair-goers a taste of the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series and specifically the 14th annual NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec, October 21-24, 1999. A full pit area will be recreated just inside the south entrance of the State Fair of Texas highlighting the 300 mph Texas Blackbird Jet Dragster team owned by Ed Kelly of Austin. " Our goal is to give every person that comes to the Fair an idea of what a Drag Racing pit area looks like. We will have videos showing racing action but the real crown jewel will be Ed Kelly's Jet Dragster. The Texas Blackbird will give people an up close and personal look at one of the fastest race cars on the planet. Hopefully they will like the jet dragster so much they will come out to the NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec. If they do they can see it go over 300 mph during the Budweiser Qualifying sessions on Friday night, October 22 as part of the exhibition show after the Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars," said Ryan Haas, Texas Motorplex General Manager. In addition to the Texas Blackbird Jet Dragster, the Texas Motorplex display will include the O'Reilly Junior Dragster, interactive displays and artist renderings of the proposed new motorsports, entertainment and community complex in Grand Prairie.
