Tracks: Lebanon Valley; Langenback, Larohelle Winners during mid week event

31 July 1999

WEST LEBANON, NY- A full field of racecars were on hand for a special
Thursday night program at Lebanon Valley. Speed's Garage and Dick's
Automotive brought us the racing action. Jim Lagenback won the 20-lap street
stock feature. Paul LaRochelle won the 15-lap IMCA modified feature. Pure
Stock winners were Brian Tator, Guy Hughes and Tim Drumm, while Don Shepard
won the rookie main. Two 40-lap Cannonball races were run, Rick Dempsey
captured the first one and Mark Webb won the second cannonball feature with a
pass on the final lap. Webb also won the Team Cannonball race. At press time
the Team that won the Team Cannonball race had yet to be determined.

Ray Hall led the first lap of the 20-lap Street Stock feature. He gave
the lead up to Al Blackburn. Lagenback was looking to be a factor early; he
was up to fifth by lap two. The first caution flag of the race flew on lap
three when Robbie Speed blew a left rear tire. Scott Govertsen grabbed second
on the restart. Lagenback continued his march toward the front moving all the
way up to second by lap six. The caution flag flew for the final time on lap
nine setting up a double file restart. Blackburn held the lead on the restart
with Lagenback, Govertsen, Dave Kokindo and Tom Bortle in tow.

Lagenback made the pass for the lead on lap eleven and he and Blackburn
began to pull away from the rest of the field. Blackburn was able to keep up
with Lagenback, but was never able to make a serious challenge to take the
lead back. Middletown regular, Tom Puck was on hand for this race. He was
getting the car setup for the Pro Stock event that will be run with the Mr.
Dirt Track, USA event on Thursday, August 5th. Lagenback was able to capture
his fourth win of the 1999 season. Blackburn had an impressive run in second
followed by Govertsen, Kokindo and Bortle.

Kevin Buff led most of the 15-lap IMCA modified feature. He was within
two laps of his first career victory when his motor went up in smoke. Paul
LaRochelle inherited the lead and went on to victory. Rich Colesanti had a
good run in the runner-up position. Jim Rajczi spun on the first lap on the
feature event. He would recover very nicely with a third place finish. Steve
Hough came home in fourth and Donnie Denue rounded out the top five.
