CASCAR Castrol Super Series West

Shirley shines in Race City CASCAR opener

CALGARY, AB - Following a one-day delay, due to rain, the CASCAR Castrol Super Series West
kicked off its 1999 season at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park on Sunday afternoon.
Saskatoon's Dan Shirley, the '97 western CASCAR champion, took command on lap 12 of
the 150-lap affair and never looked back. Second place went to defending western points
champ Wade Lee, of Calgary. During qualifying for the Race City 150, Lee set a new track
record, with a lap of 17.994 seconds around the half-mile, high-banked oval. The third
podium position went to Trevor Seibert, in a newly added second team car of western frontrunner
Kevin Dowler. The race was Seibert's introduction to CASCAR. Previously, the Williams Lake,
BC driver had experience in Formula Atlantic and Indy Lights.
