MIAMI -1999 Indy Racing champion Greg Ray was released in good condition from a Miami hospital the evening of Jan. 29 after a testing accident earlier that day at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Ray returned to his Plano, Texas, home Jan. 30, suffering from a sore knee. Ray will be evaluated before the Indy Racing League’s Test in the West on Feb. 9-10 at Phoenix International Raceway, said Dr. Henry Bock, Indy Racing League director of medical services.

The crash occurred in turn four of the 1.5-mile oval. The left side of Ray’s Dallara made contact with the outside wall. Ray climbed from the Team Menard car without assistance before being transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Ray had run approximately 40 laps in windy conditions before the accident.
