Team Cheever hires new engineer

INDIANAPOLIS,- Alan Langridge has joined Team Cheever as an engineer for the #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car driven by 1998 Indianapolis 500 winner Eddie Cheever Jr.

Langridge will oversee all research and development for Team Cheever during the 2001 Indy Racing Northern Light Series season. He is a veteran of CART, Indy Lights and Formula 3000 competition, having worked with such drivers as Formula One World Champion Damon Hill, Dario Franchitti and Gualter Salles.

Fisher to greet ticket buyers: Indy Racing Northern Light Series driver Sarah Fisher will welcome fans at the new Kentucky Speedway ticket office in Fort Mitchell, Ky., starting at 9 a.m. (EST) Jan. 8, the first day that single-event tickets are on sale for 2001 races at the track.

ARCA champion Frank Kimmel will join Fisher at the promotion. The Belterra Resort Indy 300 will take place Aug. 12 at Kentucky Speedway, the second annual Northern Light Series event at the 1.5-mile oval.

Tickets can be purchased via U.S. Mail at Kentucky Speedway, Box 176248, Covington, KY 41017-6248; by phone at 1-888-652-RACE; via the Internet at www.kentuckyspeedway.com; or in person at the ticket office located at 2216 Dixie Highway, Suite 200, Fort Mitchell, KY. The new office is in Expressway Plaza off Interstate 75 at the Fort Mitchell exit.

Hot laps: Indy Racing Northern Light Series standout Sarah Fisher will sign autographs Jan. 5 during the Cavalcade of Customs Car Show in Cincinnati. An Indy Racing car will be on display at the show in the Kentucky Speedway booth from Jan. 5-7 Dick Jones, former technical head of Champion Spark Plugs racing division, died Dec. 19 at age 79. Jones did exhaustive work on engines that powered cars at the Indianapolis 500, specializing in supercharging and turbocharging. Jones is survived by his wife, Lillie, four children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Condolences can be sent to Lillie Jones, 39845 Calicia Court, Murrieta, CA 92562.
