Fast-Fueled Winston West Series Driver Races to Save Lives in the Fight Against Cancer
Irwindale, Calif. - Following on the success of his last winning appearance at Irwindale Speedway, NASCAR Winston West driver Joe Bean will be racing to save lives as engines start up again on November 11, 2000 for the Home Depot 300. With blue-chip sponsors, the event promises an action-packed evening of racing, while benefiting research and treatment programs at City of Hope Cancer Center.
"I admire the heroic work that goes on every day at City of Hope. This is a great opportunity for me to do something I love and help others at the same time," said Bean. "The kind of response that Race for Hope has evoked from the corporate world is remarkable and it is something that we're all very proud to support."
Saturday's race will feature championship driver, Joe Bean, of San Diego, behind the wheel of the official City of Hope car. His #77 Ford Taurus will not only feature City of Hope's name, but also those of many co-sponsoring businesses.
Bean finished 3rd overall last year in the Winston West point standings.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with the Winston race beginning at approximately 7 p.m. Tickets for this Saturday's race can be obtained by calling or visiting the Irwindale Speedway ticket offices at 626-358-1100.
Race For Hope is a joint effort with City of Hope, Food 4 Less and the Food Industries Circle, an industry fund-raising support group for City of Hope.
The Food Industries Circle for City of Hope continues to be one of the largest supporters of the national medical and research center. The group is represented by more than 1,000 leading retailers, manufacturers and brokers within the Southern California food industries. In 1999, the group raised more than $8 million for City of Hope.
