Houston Raceway Park is a special place that is filled with memories for
Jeg
Coughlin, Jr. In 1997 he won his first professional victory in Pro Stock
in
only his second race behind the wheel of a factory hot rod at the fall
race.
Although Jeg has won the 2000 NHRA Winston Pro Stock Championship he is eager to return to the track where it all started for him.
"We have had an outstanding year as a team," said Jeg. "I looking forward to racing at Houston Raceway Park every year. This is one of the races that I get really excited about when I just think about it. I remember what it was like to win for the first time in Pro Stock and it brings a smile to my face every time I think about it."
Troy Coughlin is in a tight points battle for the No. 5 spot in the NHRA Winston Championship. Troy Coughlin is resting in the No. 6 spot with 1009 points. He trails Mark Pawuk by 43 points in a battle for the No. 5 position. A strong showing would catapult Troy and his Jeg's Mail Order machine firmly into the No. 5 spot.
"With the rain delay of the Dallas race we come to Houston with the same scenario in the points," explained Troy. "Our goal is come out swinging when we get to Houston. I would like nothing more than to win my first NHRA professional national event at the same track where my brother Jeg did. It would be a great way to end the best season of my career."
