USAC: Hines wins Winchester finale; Elliott claims second Sprint Car Title

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. won Sunday's "Sammy Sessions
Memorial"
feature at the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway but Tony Elliott of Kokomo, Ind.
wrapped up his second USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Championship
with
a 10th-place finish in the 33-lap series finale.Hines set a new Turbines, Inc. 1-lap track qualifying record of 127.977 mph in his Northside Propane Gaerte/Beast, then passed Dave Steele 13 laps from the end of the 33-lap feature. Ryan Newman took second, ahead of Steele, Brian Tyler and Derek Davidson. Billy Puterbaugh, Jr. led the first seven laps of the Winchester race before yielding to Steele.
Elliott edged out Jay Drake by 24 points for the seasonal title, Drake finishing ninth in Sunday's race.
The victory by Hines was his third in a row in the Stoops Freightliner series and earned him the third spot in the final points.
Heats went to Hines, Tim Cox, Steele and Newman, while Derek Davidson won the True Value semi.
